Top Gun Maverick Quotes

Top Gun: Maverick is an American action drama film from the year 2022, and is a sequel to the 1986 movie Top Gun. In this article, we share with you the best Top Gun: Maverick quotes, and I guarantee you’ll enjoy them.

Top Gun: Maverick was written by Eric Warren Singer, Ehren Kruger, and Christopher McQuarrie and directed by Joseph Kosinski. The movie stars Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Ed Harris, Val Kilmer, Monica Barbaro, and others.

The movie follows the return of Capt. Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell to the U.S. Navy as an instructor at “Top Gun”, where he must teach and prepare a group of young pilots on a dangerous mission across enemy lines, where lives are on stake. Among the young pilots is also Lt. Bradley ‘Rooster’ Bradshaw, who is Goose’s son. Goose was Maverick’s flight partner in the first movie, who died during flight.

Production for a sequel to Top Gun (1986) was announced already back in 2010, when Cruise and Kilmer were approached to play in the sequel, and for producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Tony Scott to be part of the project as well. However, in 2012, Tony Scott took his own life, and production for a sequel was halted.

In 2017, Kosinski was hired to direct the planned sequel and a new draft of the script was written. The movie premiered on at CinemaCon on April 28, 2022 and later on in cinemas all over the world. It has received positive reviews, with some claiming it is even better than the original.

Production of the movie amounted to $170 million. To the day of writing this article, it has grossed more than $321 million, with the amount clearly on the rise. Top Gun: Maverick is dedicated to the memory of the later Tony Scott,  who directed the original Top Gun movie from 1986. We also have a separate page for Top Gun quotes, with the most memorable quotes from the first film.

Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin: What do we have here? If it ain’t Phoenix. And here I thought we were special, ‘Coyote’.

Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin: Penny, my dear.

Penny Benjamin: Yeah.

Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin: Four more on the old-timer.

Penny Benjamin: There you go.

Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin: Who’s gonna to be team leader? Which one of you all has what it takes to follow me?

Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin: Thanks for the beers, come back anytime.

Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell: What happened?

Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin: Well, I flew as fast as I can. Kind of like my ass was depended on it.

Bradley ‘Rooster’ Bradshaw: And, you put your team in danger and your wingman is dead.

Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin: They couldn’t keep up.

Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin: You really don’t get it. On this mission, a man flies like Maverick here, or a man does not come back.

Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin: This guy needs an ego check.

Bradley ‘Rooster’ Bradshaw: Hey, Hangman. You look good.

Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin: I am good Rooster. I’m very good.

Beau ‘Cyclone’ Simpson Quotes from Top Gun: Maverick

Beau ‘Cyclone’ Simpson: Captain Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell. Your reputation proceeds you.

Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell: Thank you, sir.

Beau ‘Cyclone’ Simpson: Wasn’t a compliment.

Beau ‘Cyclone’ Simpson: Seems like we’re not the only ones holding onto old relics.

Beau ‘Cyclone’ Simpson: Tragic what happened.

Solomon ‘Warlock’ Bates: Captain Mitchell was cleared of any wrong doing. Goose’s death was an accident.

Beau ‘Cyclone’ Simpson: That how you see it, captain? That how Goose’s son sees it?

Beau ‘Cyclone’ Simpson: Let me be perfectly blunt. You are not my first choice. In fact, you weren’t even on the list. You are here on the request of Admiral Kazansky. Now, Iceman happens to be a man I deeply admire, and he seems to think you have something left to offer to the Navy. What that is I can’t imagine.

Beau ‘Cyclone’ Simpson: You fly for Top Gun, or you don’t fly for the Navy ever again.

Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell: Sir, they’re not ready.

Beau ‘Cyclone’ Simpson: Well, it was your job to get them ready.

Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell: Sir, they have to believe that this mission can be flown.

Beau ‘Cyclone’ Simpson: And all you’ve managed to do was teach them that it can’t.

Beau ‘Cyclone’ Simpson: You have put me in a difficult position, captain. On the one hand, you have demonstrated that this mission can be flown. Perhaps the only way it can be survived. On the other hand, you did it by stealing a multi-million-dollar military air craft and flying it in such a matter that it may never be airborne again.

Honorable Mention Quotes

Chester ‘Hammer’ Cain: Thirty plus years of service. Combat medals. Citations. Only man to shoot down three enemy planes in the last forty years. Yet, you can’t get a promotion, you won’t retire, and despite your best efforts, you refuse to die. You should be at least a two-star admiral by now. Yet, here you are, captain. Why is that?

Chester ‘Hammer’ Cain: For reasons known only to the Almighty and your guardian angel, you’ve been called back to Top Gun.

Natasha ‘Phoenix’ Trace: Fellas, this is here is Bagman.

Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin: Hangman.

Natasha ‘Phoenix’ Trace: Whatever.

Natasha ‘Phoenix’ Trace: What do they call you?

Robert ‘Bob’ Floyd: Bob.

Javy ‘Coyote’ Machado: No, your call sign.

Robert ‘Bob’ Floyd: Eh, Bob.

Natasha ‘Phoenix’ Trace: Everyone here is the best there is. Who the hell are they gonna get to teach us?

Natasha ‘Phoenix’ Trace: That’s why we call him Hangman. He’ll always hang you out to dry.

Meek Engineer: Put that in your Pentagon budget!

Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell: Where am I?

Kid: Earth.

Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell: Are you mad at me?

Penny Benjamin: Oh, Pete. I can never stay mad at you. That’s the problem.

Penny Benjamin: Pete, trust me. As improbable as it seems right now, somehow you’ll be back in a fighter plane with your tail on fire.

Penny Benjamin: I’m afraid rules are rules. You’re lucky it’s early.

Penny Benjamin: Those are your pilots. If anything happens to them, you’ll never forgive yourself.

Solomon ‘Warlock’ Bates: Your instructor is one of the finest pilots this program has ever produced. His exploits are legendary. What he has to teach you, may very well mean the difference between life and death.

Solomon ‘Warlock’ Bates: I think the Admiral is asking a rhetorical question.
